Save time at the waste facility
Planning is the key to reducing the time you spend on site at a council waste facility. Here are some simple things to consider before you consider taking a load to your local facility.
Don’t waste your weekend
It is no surprise that weekends are the busiest time at waste facilities - accounting for over 40 per cent of visits at some sites.
Whenever possible, try to drop your load off Monday to Friday, when visitation rates reduce by up to 50 per cent.
Put your wheelie bin to good use
By knowing exactly what you can place in your kerbside recycling and general waste bins, you may be able to reduce the number of visits you have to make to a waste facility.

Recycle, reuse and repurpose around the home
By putting into practice some simple habits around the home, you can significantly reduce waste levels - and therefore the time you need to spend at a waste facility.
Starting a compost pile, reusing or sharing useful building materials with friends and family, avoiding unnecessary packaging wherever possible, and choosing retailers who will take away your old whitegoods and appliances are all easy ways to reduce the need to visit a waste facility.
Only hit the road with a full load
Try to hold off visiting a waste facility until you have a full load. Not only will you save time on site, you will also save some fuel costs as well as wear and tear on your vehicle.
Take one type of waste
Under legislation, from 1 July 2019 council must record the weight of the different types of waste being disposed of at its waste facilities. For example, households visiting weighbridge sites disposing of two different types of waste, such as a load of sorted recyclable items as well as waste destined for landfill, will be required to enter the site’s weighbridge twice to meet State Government reporting requirements. Visiting with a full load of one type of waste, when possible, will reduce queuing and disposal times.
Get things sorted before leaving home
Speed up your time on-site by having your waste types (such as recyclables) sorted and separated before leaving home.
Know your local waste facility
