General waste

Mixed waste that is not sorted into items to be reused or recycled. This includes laminated wood products, MDF, chipboard, particle boards and painted timber. General waste is disposed into landfill.

Reusing and recycling reduces general waste and saves landfill disposal costs, domestic waste wheelie bin collection fees, energy, water, natural resources and the local environment.

Items not accepted as general waste in Council's wheelie bin collection service or Council waste facilities include hazardous and regulated waste, including asbestos containing material (ACM), tyres, gas bottles, vehicle batteries, machine oil, chemicals, paint, fluorescent globes and tubes, fire extinguisher, EPIRBs, smoke alarms.

Bulky large and heavy items - including mattresses, whitegoods, air conditioners and water tanks - or construction and demolition materials are not accepted in wheelie bins or at Council Waste transfer stations. These items are only accepted at Council’s major waste facilities.

Residents taking certain materials or large amounts of waste to Council waste facilities, or who use a commercial vehicle to dispose of excess waste, are recommended to check with Council.
