Help shape our tourism future

Help shape our tourism future

The Moreton Bay Region is a diverse area, spanning more than 2,037 square kilometres and boasting everything from rural townships and urban centres to coastal villages.

Moreton Bay is one of Australia's fastest growing urban regions and offers some of South East Queensland's premier waterfront locations and pristine environmental areas with peaceful seaside towns and picturesque hinterland villages.

Our hinterland region of Moreton Bay is an untapped resource, a sprawling natural beauty with unique views of Brisbane city, Moreton Bay and the Glasshouse Mountains that is not fully utilised or recognised by residents or visitors. The unique characteristics of the Moreton Bay Region are secret to most - but it’s a secret we want to get out!

Council is developing a plan to identify new or expanded tourism opportunities on council-controlled land that will help support further growth in the region’s tourism industry.

Tourism supports local businesses, creates local jobs and enhances our region’s local economy and lifestyle.

Have your say

Council sought feedback from community and industry via an online survey between 10 December 2020 and 17 January 2021. Council was looking for your ideas on tourism infrastructure opportunities that could:

  • create a destination for the drive tourism market
  • expand or enhance greater activation of an existing attraction
  • create/integrate complementary private tourism investment/activities and on land adjacent to private facilities
  • opportunities that support accessible tourism and explore how Moreton Bay can become the most accessible tourism destination in southeast Queensland
  • opportunities that support indigenous and cultural tourism.

Council would like to thank the community for the feedback received throughout the consultation period. The feedback provided Council with critical insights into tourism opportunities across the region that will help inform this project.
