This proposed active transport project is located on Buchanan Street, Rothwell between the existing pathway on the southern side of Buchanan Street and the shared user pathway at Bremner Road.
Moreton Bay Regional Council supports a healthy and active lifestyle for residents by investing in safe, efficient, reliable and integrated transport networks.
The lack of pathway in this area results in pedestrians walking on the road shoulder or in the parking lane on the southern side of Buchanan Street. This is not considered to be a safe situation.
To ensure pedestrians and cyclists can safely travel between the existing pathway network, we are investigating the proposal for a segregated pathway to be constructed on the southern side of Buchanan Street.
A concept plan(PDF, 1MB) has been prepared that shows the layout of the proposed segregated pathway. It includes:
- a two metre wide shared pathway for cyclists and pedestrians
- coloured surface treatment
- medians to create a physical barrier from the traffic lane
- bicycle and pedestrian pavement symbols
- widened pavement at the western end.
Public consultation has now closed, resident feedback regarding the planned upgrade will be used to assist Council complete the detailed engineering design.
