This project is aimed at rehabilitating the road, paving and enhancing Bongaree’s friendly, welcoming seaside character through streetscape enhancements.
The project is currently in design phase. Construction is due to begin in late 2023. Council will work with the community to minimise impacts to local businesses and visitors.
A streetscape for the seaside lifestyle
Bongaree is an increasingly popular place attracting visitors from all over Bribie Island and greater Brisbane. Council recognises the need to upgrade the streetscape to ensure it retains its relaxed character while also investing in infrastructure which support the numbers of people who want to stop in, grab some fish and chips and explore the foreshore.
The primary objective of the project is to reseal the road along Welsby Parade and First Avenue Service Lane to repair the rutting which has occurred over time. Sections of the newly surfaced road will be stamped with bold, signature graphics befitting the Bongaree’s personality. Other improvements will include safer pedestrian crossings, new bespoke furniture elements such as seating and signage, resurfacing of footpaths and additional planting for shade and amenity. These measures will beautify the street, make it easier for people to walk around the neighbourhood and provide high quality outdoor dining areas.
