Woorim Beach

Council has temporarily removed a section of beach matting at Woorim Beach. Recent weather events have caused significant loss of sand and the slope is now too steep to be used safely. We will continue to monitor the beach conditions and will reinstall the matting when it is safe to do so.

Thanks to City of Moreton Bay’s Accessible beaches Initiative, delivered in partnership with Bribie Island Surf Lifesaving Club, Bribie’s beautiful Woorim Beach is now accessible to everyone.

Accessible beach matting (Mobi-Mat®) provides access onto the beach, while 2 beach wheelchairs enable users to travel along the beach and down to the water’s edge.

Beach Mat (Mobi-Mat®)

The permanently installed beach mat provides an accessible and stable walkway onto the beach all year round. It has been shown to significantly improve access onto the beach for users of mobility devices (e.g. wheelchairs, mobility scooters, walking frames, etc.), people with chronic health conditions (e.g. arthritis), seniors, and families pushing prams or carts.

Key features of the beach mat include:

  • Location: Woorim Beach access point 12
  • Dimensions: 1.98 metre wide, the mat extends down to the bottom of the dunes/top of the beach
  • Availability: Seven days a week, 365 days a year, subject to beach and weather conditions
  • Product leaflet(PDF, 4MB)

The Mobi-Mat® is laid out along Woorim Beach access point 12. The entrance of Access point 12 can be found at Bluey Piva Park. A continuous pathway connects the accessible parking within the carpark off North Street to Access point 12.

Beach Wheelchairs

Two beach wheelchairs are available for free hire on weekends and public holidays during the summer season (late September to early May).

Mobi-Chair®

Kindly donated to Council’s Accessible Beaches initiative by CentaCare Moreton Bay, the Mobi-Chair® Beach Wheelchair is a high quality, amphibious rolling beach chair that provides a seamless transition from boardwalk to beach to water. Once in the water, the arm rests enable the chair and its user to float.

Sandcruiser

The Sandcruiser glides over sand, absorbing shocks for a smooth and comfortable ride along the beach. Whilst this chair is not designed to float, it offers an excellent experience on the beach and in shallow waters.
