Accessible beaches trial - Woorim Beach
Between September 2019 and May 2020, Council is trialling the Accessible Beaches initiative at Woorim Beach on Bribie Island in partnership with Bribie Island Surf Lifesaving Club.
Beach matting
30 metres of beach matting has been installed at the main beach entrance (Access Point 12), just north of the Bribie Island Surf Lifesaving Club. This matting provides access to the soft sand at Woorim Beach, just above the level of the highest astronomical tide. This length of matting has been installed on a permanent basis for the duration of this trial. Council is also trialling the installation of 10 metres of matting at the beach access point on Fifth Avenue.
Beach wheelchairs
Two beach wheelchairs are available for free hire through the Bribie Island Surf Lifesaving Club on weekends and public holidays for the duration of this trial.
- Email Bribie Island Surf Lifesaving Club (bribiesc@bigpond.com) to request a booking at your preferred time. If possible, users are requested to submit their request at least 1 week out from their planned visit.
- Once the booking has been confirmed, complete the beach wheelchair hire agreement (Part B only), print it out and take it with you to Woorim Beach.
- When you arrive at the beach, notify the club captain on patrol, hand over your completed wheelchair hire agreement and wait for the beach wheelchair to be brought out for you.
- Have a great time!
