Kudos for Council's support of local artists

Moreton Bay Regional Council is a finalist in the Galleries and Museum Achievement Awards for its role in supporting local artists to access new audiences and business opportunities.

Lifestyle and Amenity Spokesperson Councillor Denise Sims said the awards recognise the positive impact not-for-profit galleries and museums have on the creative industries.

“A key function of council’s art gallery network is to support local artists to contribute to a vibrant and growing arts community in the Moreton Bay Region,” said Sims.

“For the past 18 months, council’s gallery team has been collaborating with community arts groups to present their work to new audiences through contemporary exhibitions as part of the Curatorial Development Program.

“This pilot program has been a great success to date.

“As it grows, council’s vision is for participating artists and groups to gain recognition and new audiences for their work beyond the region.”

The winners will be revealed at an award ceremony in Cairns on 19 September, as part of Museums & Galleries Queensland’s state conference.

Moreton Bay Regional Council owns and operates three art galleries - Caboolture Regional Art Gallery, Redcliffe Art Gallery and Pine Rivers Art Gallery. Council delivers a program of 60 exhibitions each year across these galleries encompassing a mix of call-out, in-house, guest curated, touring and community collaboration exhibitions.
