Youth Art Awards 2020

Budding artists from across Moreton Bay have brought some much needed colour and creativity to 2020 for the Youth Art Awards.

Mayor Peter Flannery said he was blown away by the level of talent on display at the Strathpine Community Centre.

“From Bribie Island to Samford, we had over 200 children enter works this year, and as always, their artwork was colourful, thought-provoking, expressive and creative,” he said.

“Through these annual art awards, we hope to encourage young people to continue with their creative talents into the future.

“As we all know, art is a great outlet for the mind and the soul, especially given the difficult year our children have had with disruptions to school learning and not being able to play outdoors.

“We’ve ramped up investment across arts, libraries and history this financial year to $19.3 million because we recognise the importance of creative outlets for the community.

“Building infrastructure to support this sector has also been our strong focus, including building a brand new $5.5 million Redcliffe Art Gallery that will catapult the region’s cultural and arts offerings to a new level.

“One day, I hope to see the works of our region’s brightest budding artists, which we’ve seen through these awards, proudly exhibited there.”

Winners received $200 in prizes in both the 2D and 3D sections for each age group.

The collaborative entry prize, which goes to the winning schools to further support their art programs, took home $1000 in each of three sections.

“I’d like to congratulate everyone involved, including the teachers who put so much effort into these awards,” Mayor Flannery said.

“While the prizes are central to the awards, it is equally important to recognise the efforts of all artists.

“It’s more important than ever we come together to recognise our community’s achievements and support one another.”
