Touch of class for Caboolture rugby

Council has joined forces with the Caboolture Sports Club, and the Federal and State Governments to build a new $6.15 million rugby union and touch football facility at the Petersen Road Sports Ground, Morayfield for nearly 2,000 local players who use the existing facility.
This is the second project to be delivered as a direct result of Council’s sports infrastructure partnership with Caboolture Sports Club (CSC), which holds 10 leases and 22 sports field permits across nine Council sports venues region wide.
Mayor Peter Flannery said this was the partnership that keeps on giving for the Moreton Bay community thanks to the additional support from the Federal Government ($1.5 million) and State Government ($1 million).
“When we signed this sports infrastructure partnership with the Caboolture Sports Club back in 2020 we never imagined the amazing support we’d receive from both levels of Governments for our projects,” he said.
“It’s allowed us to deliver a brand new $1.3 million state-of-the-art indoor cricket training facility in Caboolture and now we’re building this brand-new rugby union and touch football facility at Morayfield.
“Council is committed to working with all levels of government and community groups to deliver projects like this that make a big impact on the health and lifestyle of locals so we can all live, work and play locally.
“This partnership with Caboolture Sports Club is a true testament to their investment in social fabric of the region through community and sporting facilities.”
The project includes the demolition of the existing clubhouse, construction of a new clubhouse, including four multipurpose changerooms, amenities, kitchen, viewing decks and tiered seating.
Longman MP Terry Young said this major redevelopment of the Petersen Road facility would significantly increase Caboolture Snakes Rugby Union Club and Caboolture Touch Association’s ability to grow their sports locally.
“Unfortunately the clubhouse and facilities had become quite outdated which was becoming difficult for the nearly 2,000 participants who play here,” he said.
“In particular the need for separate women’s changerooms so that both club’s could grow their participation numbers with the growing demand of women taking up both sports.
“This will allow them to be more inclusive in the future and attract a whole new generation of players to their respective clubs.”
Morayfield MP Mark Ryan said the upgrades would support the Snakes’ push to enter the Queensland Premier Rugby competition.
“The Snakes have a proud local history both on and off the field and this will help them grow both aspects and become a real focal point for the community,” he said.
“A promotion into the topflight competition would not only be great for local fans but it gives young aspiring juniors a pathway to follow their dreams and maybe play for Australia one day.
“The club also does a lot of great community work through their annual Sponsor and Charity Day Jersey Auction, which I hope can only get bigger and better with these new facilities.”
Caboolture Sports Club CEO Kelvin Patch said it was great to see all levels of government getting involved to support community sport.
“Sport is an absolutely pivotal part of building a great community and we’ve seen the transformation over the many years we’ve been working in Moreton Bay,” he said.
“This is just another great step forward for the Caboolture and Morayfield area to improve lifestyle and quality of sports facilities for locals.
“I’d like to shout out a massive thank you to Moreton Bay Regional Council and both the Federal and State Governments for their support to deliver a great outcome for the community.”
Councillor Tony Latter (Div 12) said this brand-new facility would cater for current and future demand.
“It’s important that Moreton Bay and the Caboolture region in particular has state-of-the-art district level sports facilities so we can maintain the amazing quality of life we all love,” he said.
“I’m committed to protecting what we already have and building on that for locals, so we have places to exercise and keep fit and healthy.
“I can’t wait to see it when it’s finished and cheer on the Snakes at home matches from the new viewing deck.”
The Federal Government has contributed $1.5 million, CSC $1.36 million, State Government $1 million, while Council will make up the remaining $2.3 million.
