Moreton Bay Region will enter a three-day lockdown from 5pm tonight (29 March 2021) as part of the Greater Brisbane lockdown.

Mayor Peter Flannery said the safest thing to do is simply stay home.

“This swift action by Queensland Health will hopefully stop further community spread,” he said.

“All Council buildings including our administration centres will be closed from 5pm today, but you can still contact Council via phone and email.

“We’ll be operating with staffing as we did in January and have teams working from home to continue our service to the community like we did in January.

“Moreton Bay Region residents will still able to exercise outdoors in accordance with the Chief Health Officer’s direction. I reiterate that all other Council facilities will be closed including our dumps and Treasure Markets.

“Kerbside waste collections will continue as usual, but our dumps will only be open to commercial customers from 5pm today.

“MBRIT has had to make the hard decision to cancel the hugely popular Festival of Sails event this weekend, so I apologise to everyone who’d been looking forward to that.

“Three days of inconvenience could save us weeks or months of further lockdowns.

“The Premier has said there’s no need to panic buy, supermarkets are well stocked and will remain open you just need to wear a face mask if you need to leave your home.

“Council has cancelled all our scheduled events and activities through to Thursday.”
