Preparations for events in 2022 are continuing in Moreton Bay with planning underway to bring back one of Samford’s family-favourite events after the expected peak of the Omicron COVID-19 strain.

Whip out the picnic blanket, put on your dancing shoes and bring your best singing voice for the expected return of Music Under the Stars at the Samford Showgrounds on February 12.

Mayor Peter Flannery said after a one-year hiatus due to wet weather, council’s much-loved event would look to be back at the Samford Showgrounds with a bumper lineup of music to get the whole family grooving along with good food, artisan markets and fun activities for the young and young-at-heart.

"After a tough year for many families and businesses, we want to try and start 2022 in Samford by bringing everyone together for a celebration of our community through music and food, ” Mayor Flannery said.

The gold-coin event will be headlined by Rumours the Australian Fleetwood Mac Experience who will perform inter-generational hits like Dreams and Landslide, together with performances from emerging indie-reggae rock band Lucid Safari, Angel Strings Quartet and acoustic artist Amy Kate.

Running from 4pm-8pm, Mayor Flannery said there would be plenty on offer for hungry tummies, with indulgent food trucks set to line the showgrounds.

“Whether it’s a chorus of your favourite hits, good food to satisfy the cravings, or backyard games and an inflatable obstacle course for the littles ones - there’s something for everyone at Music Under the Stars.

“It’s an event that I know my fellow councillor Darren Grimwade has been looking forward to, because your cheer and support will mean a lot to the businesses and artists taking part after a tough year with COVID.”

Cr Grimwade said he looked forward to welcoming families back to the showgrounds, with event also marking the return of the popular night-time markets complete with handmade, local and sustainable designs and wares.

“What better way to start off 2022 than on a high note and through an evening for the whole family,” Cr Grimwade said.

“Mark your calendar for a night under the stars, and be sure to say G’day to the show society who will also be running a bar for the four-hour event.

“Events like this, together with investments like the $1.7 million package for the Samford Parklands and Alan Cash Park, are our community’s way to not just celebrate what we love about Samford but also support the local economy.”
