We all deserve a long weekend, and Moreton Bay residents now have an extra one to look forward to in 2023.

Council today unanimously voted to mark the Royal Queensland Show on Monday 14 August 2023 and create a local long weekend, instead of celebrating the Ekka People’s Day mid-week like other parts of SEQ.

Best of all, the 2022 Show Holiday long weekend is next week (August 8) so there’s already reason to celebrate!

Mayor Peter Flannery said Moreton Bay had a long tradition of creating a long weekend for locals.

“This is the perfect opportunity for families to stay and play in our region,” Mayor Flannery said.

“Get onto the Visit Moreton Bay Region website now and start planning an adventure with your family to a discover a new part of your own backyard.

“I hope the People’s Long Weekend will encourage locals and visitors to buy local, shop local and holiday locally in Moreton Bay Region.

“Whether that’s the charm of the hinterland or cruising along the coast, there’s so many popular self-drive itineraries to choose from.

“And there’s more to do than ever before in our region!

“We’re proud to be providing a record number of events this year in partnership with Moreton Bay Region Industry & Tourism (MBRIT), as an investment in the vibrancy and community spirit of our region that really sets us apart from other Council areas.”

To coincide with the 2022 holiday MBRIT and Council will again host the annual Caboolture Family Fun Day with free rides, activities and stage shows at Centenary Lakes.

Cr Adam Hain (Div 3) said it was better than the Ekka!

“I reckon it’s the ultimate affordable show experience in the whole of southeast Queensland,” he said.

“With the price of everything going up it’s important that local families have opportunities to come together like this, without breaking the bank.

“So bring the kids down to enjoy the thrills and spills of the rides while you explore the market stalls and get some R&R.”
