One of Arana Hills busiest stretches is set to undergo a $2.6 million transformation, with Moreton Bay Regional Council starting works next month on the Plucks and South Pine roads intersection upgrade.

Mayor Peter Flannery said in a win for Arana Hills motorists, council today awarded the tender for construction to CES Civil SEQ to improve the flow of traffic and safety with new lights, anti-skid surfacing and drainage.

“This is a notorious stretch of downhill road, particularly when wet. It’s something Cr Constance has been raising with council on behalf of his community, which is why we’re taking action,” Mayor Flannery said.

“We’ve completed the Dawson Parade and Patricks Road intersection upgrade, and thanks to a record $743 million budget we’re able to put our sights squarely on this next intersection.

“And as an added bonus, we’ll see those vital construction jobs continue to be supported in Moreton Bay as we continue our economic recovery from COVID-19.”

Division 10 Councillor Matt Constance welcomed the announcement, saying the intersection was the main road between homes in the west to vital services, shops and schools.

“With Leslie Patrick Park’s new all-abilities playground, Arana Hills Plaza, the fire station and schools all located within this precinct, this upgrade has been one of the top priorities for our community,” Cr Constance said.

“Council undertook extensive consultation and design on this project, so it’s great to see much of that feedback being reflected in the final design.

“Sadly, we’ve seen eight crashes at this intersection since 2013 including a number of hospitalisations, which shows just how important this upgrade is.

“It’s a project that’ll get traffic not just moving, but moving safely, while also improving pedestrian safety and connecting to the upcoming Max Moreton Park pedestrian connection.”

Works are expected to take 20 weeks to complete, weather and construction conditions permitting.
