The entrance to Bribie Island will soon be restored to its former glory, with the renewal of the iconic Dale Marsh mural set to begin next month.

Moreton Bay Regional Council Mayor Peter Flannery said he was looking forward to seeing the famous artwork get a new lease on life.

“For as long as I can remember driving to Bribie the painting has been there greeting residents and tourists as they come across the bridge,” he said.

“It’s not a piece of nostalgia or sentimentality, I really see it as a piece of Bribie Island’s character and identity. So this is a very important renewal project.

“These works will ensure the iconic piece of art will remain a part of Bribie Island’s tapestry for many more years to come.”

Councillor (Div1) Brooke Savige said it comes after an extensive community consultation period that lasted almost three years.

“To think this project started back in October 2017 from a humble Facebook post on the Bribie Island Community page is amazing,” Cr Savige said.

“It was clear from that moment that Bribie Islanders not only felt a deep connection to Dale Marsh’s mural, but they wanted to see it preserved.

“We’ve since gone through an in-depth consultative process which has only confirmed that sentiment with over 95% of respondents calling for the mural to be renewed.”

Construction will begin in June and is expected to be complete in eight weeks, weather permitting.

Due to the nature of works, residents’ access and traffic flow may be affected. Hours of work will generally be between 7:00 AM to 6:00 PM, Monday to Friday.

Council apologises in advance for any inconvenience you may experience during the construction process.
