The Redcliffe Waste Transfer Station will reopen to commercial customers next month after a $600,000 upgrade.

Moreton Bay Region Mayor Peter Flannery said it was an essential upgrade to the facility’s waste collection ramps and buildings on site, after many years of wear and tear.

“This is an important investment in the safety and longevity of our region’s largest waste transfer facility, ensuring it will be operational for another 30 years to come,” he said.

“It may not seem like an exciting announcement, but the dangerous fire that broke out at Ipswich’s landfill site the other day is a reminder of why these kinds of works are absolutely critical.

“From 17 August, Moreton Bay businesses can once again dispose of their commercial waste at the Redcliffe Waste Transfer Station.

“Importantly, we designed these works to ensure there were no impacts or disruptions to residents being able to use the facility.

“Unlike other local councils, we’re lucky to have a number of landfill and transfer stations across the region that are easily accessible for residents and businesses.

“We’ve also maintained our commitment to free tipping for households in the Moreton Bay Region, provided you comply with the State Government’s waste levy stipulations.

“Bulky items will still not be accepted at this station because of the limited space, exorbitant cost of waste transportation and most importantly, the safety hazard of accumulating that type of waste.

“But large items such as lounges, cupboards and furniture are accepted at Council’s major waste management sites at Dakabin, Bunya and Caboolture.

“Residents can still visit the Redcliffe Waste Transfer Station today, and dispose of their household and green waste including timber and concrete.

“I’d like to thank businesses for their patience during these works and being happy to travel close by to the Dakabin Waste Management Facility for this service.”
