Poetry ‘Slams Dunk’ Moreton Bay

Published 19 July 2019

Roses are red, violets are blue, if words are your thing then we’ve got news for you!

Moreton Bay Regional Council Spokesperson for Lifestyle and Amenity Denise Sims said council was calling on the best performing poets in the region to compete for a chance to represent Queensland at the Australian Poetry Slam at North Lakes on August 2.

“If you love rhythm, rhyme and alliteration then sign up for a shot at Australian Poetry Slam glory,” Councillor Sims said.

“Contestants will have two minutes to work the stage and win over the audience with their original words at the Moreton Bay Heat.

“If you are looking to sharpen your tongue and polish your delivery, you can also sign up for a free masterclass to get you ‘slam ready’ before the heat.

“The winner from the Moreton Bay Heat will automatically qualify for the Queensland final and get a chance to progress through to the Australian Poetry Slam.”

Cr Sims said The Australian Poetry Slam was a live literary performance program and one of the largest and most respected performing writers programs in the world combining stories, poems, theatre and hip-hop.

Residents are welcome to attend and can book a place to be part of the Moreton Bay Slam Heat audience.
