Moreton Bay Regional Council is using spring to start preparing Woodford for summer, awarding a $454,500 contract to install new air-conditioning systems in the Memorial Hall.

Mayor Peter Flannery said an investment in community infrastructure was an investment into a better lifestyle for locals.

“We know from our Moreton Says survey results that residents want greater investment into their local lifestyle,” Mayor Flannery said.

“Which is why we’re installing a new, air conditioning system to help create a safe and comfortable environment for locals.

“This will now allow residents to host and participate in community events and activities all year round, no matter how warm the weather is.

“This is just the start as we been upgrade a number of our 46 community halls across Moreton Bay Region to improve their usability, including Rothwell, Upper Caboolture and Deception Bay.

“As well as new disability parking and ramp access at Delaneys Creek Hall, and the soon to be completed $1.8 million replacement of Mt Glorious Hall with new playground.”

Located in the heart of town, Local Councillor for Division 12 Tony Latter said the upgrade would benefit the whole Woodford community.

“The Woodford Memorial Hall is used by many locals on a weekly basis, from martial arts and dance classes, to children’s library activities and support groups,” Cr Latter said.

“It can get quite warm in Woodford, so I know many locals will be happy to know they can use the hall to stay out of the sun and stay safe inside thanks to the new air conditioning.

“By making the space more comfortable we hope to see more people using the hall for community-based events, private functions and activities that foster community pride and a healthy lifestyle.

"This upgrade will be go hand-in-hand with the recent $20,896 grant we provided to the Woodford Memorial Community Centre Associate to install solar power at the site."

Works are scheduled to start in late September and take approximately 18 weeks to complete.
