Moreton Bay Regional Council has continued its strong form as the most generous Council in south east Queensland for community sports leases by extending Arana Netball Club’s nominal lease at Leslie Patrick Park.

Mayor Peter Flannery said Arana Netball Club is one of more than 400 sporting and community organisations that benefit from a nominal $1 lease arrangement per annum to operate out of Council-owned facilities.

“We are the most generous Council in all of south east Queensland when it comes to our lease arrangements with community sports clubs,” he said.

“Many clubs have taken a whack during forced COVID-19 closures, so it’s piece of mind for them to know they don’t have to worry about the financial stress of rental fees or needing to find a new home.

“This allows our sports clubs to focus on providing a better service for their members and promote community sport across the region.

“Council’s $743 million 2021-22 Budget includes a record $245 million capital works program that is geared toward healthy and active lifestyles as our region continues to grow.”

Councillor Matt Constance (Div 10) said clubs in neighbouring suburbs like Ferny Grove, Stafford and Aspley looked to Moreton Bay Region with envy.

“I talk to many local sports clubs on a regular basis and the general feedback is our neighbours to the south would love to be operating out of Moreton Bay Regional Council for our generous attitude toward community sport,” he said.

“Not only do we support our clubs with nominal lease arrangements but we help to maintain and take care of the facilities, including the mowing of sports fields!

“Arana Netball Club is one of many local clubs who work tirelessly to do a magnificent job at promoting sport in our region and giving young people a healthy start to life.

“It makes perfect sense that Council does everything we can to support them so they can do the best job they possibly can.

“Sport and recreation facilities of all types will only become more important as our population grows over the coming years.”
