Join award winning Melbourne author Mark Brandi in Moreton Bay for the launch of his compelling page-turner The Rip at Albany Creek Library next week.

Winner of the British Crime Writers' Association Debut Dagger, and Best Debut at the 2018 Australian Indie Book Awards, Mr Brandi will be on hand to sign copies of his new urban crime novel and answer all your burning questions.

Spokesperson for Lifestyle and Amenity Councillor Denise Sims said it was a  thrill to have yet another award winning author visit Moreton Bay.

“Libraries’ Meet the Author events are a popular drawcard with over 2,000 attendees last year,” Cr Sims said.

“These events provide fantastic professional development opportunities for locals who have a flair for writing or might actually be aspiring authors themselves.

“I’d certainly encourage anyone with the time to get along to these events, it’s a truly enriching experience to meet such talented writers and hear their perspectives firsthand.”

Mr Brandi said Meet the Author events not only brought great importance to communities but inspiration to writers also.

“Much of our literary and cultural scene focuses on our capital cities, but I feel like this is changing,” Mr Brandi said.

“I can trace the beginnings of my own literary career back to meeting authors and creatives at a rural writers retreat when I was eleven years old – it was the first time I thought I could ever be an author. My life and career took many detours thereafter, but that experience shaped me.

“And I love visiting these beautiful locations I would otherwise be unlikely to see. Some of these experiences, and people I meet, feed into my own writing. Plus, it can also spark a creative idea in local authors – many of our most successful writers don’t live in major capital cities.”
