Moreton Bay set to showcase local music talent in new micro-festival

Moreton Bay Live & Local Micro-Festival will feature 50 musicians at 11 local business venues across the region over two jam-packed days to celebrate and invigorate the local music industry.
The Live & Local program led by the Creative Arts Alliance (CAA) focusses on supporting the live music sector’s recovery from the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Since July 1, artists and arts workers have reported a loss of 32,000 gigs and nearly $94 million in revenue according to the I Lost My Gig national survey, creating an extensive gap in the creative economy that the region is well-placed to fill.
Mayor Peter Flannery said the Live & Local Music Recovery Project will help build a sustainable music industry in the region and shine a light on our local arts and culture.
“Moreton Bay Regional Council is thrilled to be supporting the Live & Local Micro Festival that will hopefully lead to paid employment opportunities for our local musicians to showcase their talent through our local businesses and vibrant venues,” he said.
“Supporting our local musicians, performers and artists not only drives positive social and economic outcomes for our region, it gives people a musical extravaganza to invigorate the senses.
“I encourage anyone living in or visiting the Moreton Bay during this time to get out and explore our beautiful region, support our local music makers and enjoy some free live entertainment.”
Local and emerging event producer Amy Kate Bryant said curating a local micro-festival has given her the chance to energise local artists and discovering new opportunities to showcase live music across the region.
“As an artist myself, to be able to engage with businesses and encourage them to celebrate and promote original music has been a great experience,” she said.
“Through our work, we've activated spaces not traditionally known for hosting live work, so it's been exciting to nurture new relationships and I can't wait to see the region alive with people’s voices proudly celebrating their local areas.”
The two-day micro-festival program features 31 different acts from soloists and bands - all are family-friendly, completely free and no bookings are required. But we do suggest arriving early as there is limited seating.
The Moreton Bay Live & Local Micro-Festival will present pop-up performances across Samford Village on Saturday 30 October and in Dayboro and Brendale on Saturday 6 November. Check out the full program online.
In addition to the micro-festival, Moreton Bay will host two professional development events that will explore business and artist-specific ways to build a sustainable music economy, and a Music Industry Forum to discuss how to foster a flourishing local live music scene in Moreton Bay.
