Head to Redcliffe Museum for Low Sensory Hour

Published 24 July 2019

Redcliffe Museum will be dimming its lights and limit noise on the first day of every month, so that people with sensory sensitivities can comfortably use the space.

Moreton Bay Regional Council Spokesperson for Lifestyle and Amenity Cr Denise Sims said Low Sensory Hour would be held 10am-11am at the start of each month through to the end of this year.

“The team at the museum will create a welcoming environment for all by dimming the lights and limiting sounds,” she said.

“People can plan their outing with greater ease by downloading a social guide from the website or collecting the booklet from the museum. The guide will inform visitors about what they can do and find inside the museum”

Division 6 Councillor Koliana Winchester said the event reinforced Council’s vision to improve the accessibility and inclusiveness of council infrastructure and services in the region.

“We adopted the region’s first Disability Access and Inclusion Plan 2018-2022 last year to make our region more accessible and inclusive for people living with disabilities,” she said.

“This is a great way for us to improve access and inclusion in our community and I hope to see many local families getting involved.”
