Community groups in the Moreton Bay Region have received a $278,498 boost thanks to the latest round of Moreton Bay Regional Council’s community grants.

All up, 55 groups will take a share of the funds, with grants ranging from $447 for purchase of a PA system for the QCWA Burpengary branch to $25,000 through council’s Interest Free Loan program for installation of solar panels at U3A Kallangur Centre.

Moreton Bay Regional Council Mayor Allan Sutherland said council’s community grants program enables groups to grow and enhance their service provision to the wider community.

“Community and sporting organisations are the heart and soul of our communities, so it’s right that we invest in their future success,” he said.

“Some community groups need financial assistance to purchase equipment or improve their facilities, while others may need help to get a new event off the ground.

“Council is pleased to be in a position to support these organisations through our grants program.”

Funding was offered across six categories, including Community Activities, Community Facilities, Organisational Development, Organisation Equipment, Regional Arts Development Fund (RADF) and Community Facilities Interest Free Loans.

Mayor Sutherland said council supported a wide range of community activities and events through grant funding including the Beachmere Sesquicentenary Celebrations, a community fishing event at Hornibrook Bridge, an All Breed Cat Show in Caboolture and Anniversary Orchid Show in Redcliffe.

“We will also invest more than $22,000 to support organisation development opportunities such as the development of strategic business plans for a number of local community groups as well as funds towards website design, signage and marketing,” Mayor Sutherland said.

“Delaney’s Creek Pony Club, Friends of Lagoon Creek and The Hills and District Chamber of Commerce are some of the groups who submitted successful community organisation development grant applications.”

Council’s equipment grants were awarded to 19 groups, with funds being used towards a defibrillator for the Pine Rivers Croquet Club, a new canoe with storage for prosthetic limbs at the Bombora Outrigger Canoe Club Bribie and laptop and printer for the Redcliffe Leagues Netball Association.

Community facilities set for an upgrade thanks to grant funds include the Samford District Bowls Club who received $4,000 towards a flooring upgrade, Redcliffe Pottery Group who received $13,000 for solar power installation and Humpybong Yacht Club who will expand their bathroom facilities thanks to a $15,000 grant.

Moreton Bay Projects receiving funding through the Regional Arts Development Fund (RADF), a partnership between council and the State Government include a publication by Redcliffe Historical Society ‘Memories of Margate’ and a public art mural project at Bribie Island called ‘Save the Bees’.
