Negotiations between Cleanaway and the Transport Workers Union will continue next week, with garbage truck drivers expected to strike on Wednesday 2 December at this stage.

Cleanaway has scheduled catch-up collections for Saturday 28 November and Monday 30 November to empty any bins that were missed this week and is working to minimise potential disruptions next week.

If your wheelie bin is not emptied within two days of its usual collection date please report it by:

Council will advise Cleanaway where bins have been missed and organise for them to be collected.

Residents are permitted to leave their bins on the footpath as long as necessary to allow truck drivers the time to clear all rubbish.

Additional trucks and drivers have been brought in from as far away as Cairns, as Cleanaway works through the backlog of missed bins resulting from previous strike action.

To ensure Cleanaway’s drivers can process the increased workload there will be additional conditions temporarily enforced on collections:

  • Overloaded bins will not be collected, the bin’s lid must be completely closed.
  • Overflow waste on the ground around bins will not be collected.
  • If your bin is blocked by an on-street vehicle or other obstruction, it will not be collected.

These rules are currently being enforced from 4:00am on Tuesday 17 November through to 4:00am on Saturday 5 December, but could be extended if needed.

Thank you for your understanding.
