The doors to Moreton Bay Region’s galleries and museums are being thrown open through the wonders of technology with virtual exhibition tours and countless creative activities now available online.

Mayor Peter Flannery said it was welcome news for any art aficionados who can’t wait for galleries to physically reopen their doors in mid-June.

“I know a lot of locals have missed spending quality time in our wonderful art spaces, so I welcome the state government’s announcement that restrictions will be eased to allow galleries and museums to open in mid-June,” he said.

“Art lovers can explore one of our latest exhibitions Simon Degroot: Constructive through a virtual tour. The exhibition ran for only a short few weeks before the Caboolture Regional Art Gallery temporarily closed, but now thanks to technology you can see it and learn more about the artworks up close.

“Those looking to explore their inner-artist are spoilt for choice with over a dozen hands-on activities to choose from.

“To help keep the little ones entertained, we’ve also developed the Term Tots at Home program, where you can tune in for weekly activity sheets with fun facts and jokes, song links, crafts and more.

“We’re also showcasing some of our historical artefacts, so tune in for a blast from the past and see which items from our dementia outreach program Memory Box will be featured online each week.

“Just as local businesses have been encouraged to adapt through the #MoretonBayTough campaign, Council too is embracing new ways to operate while facilities are currently closed.

“Necessity truly is the mother of all invention, and COVID-19 has inspired this collaboration between the creative and digital industries to bring you a variety of online entertainment from the comfort of home.

“And while that means going completely digital for now, we can’t wait to reopen our facilities when it’s safe and welcome the community back into our arts and cultural hubs soon.”
