SAVE THE DATE for the grand opening of the new world-class Football Precinct at the Moreton Bay Central Sports Complex in Burpengary.

Mayor Allan Sutherland will unveil the multi-million dollar facility, now the new home of Caboolture Sports Football Club, just after 5pm on Saturday, 11 May before kick-off for the Caboolture vs. Brisbane Knights game.

The $11 million Football Precinct boasts two senior-grade grass fields and the region’s first senior-grade synthetic football field, as well as a multipurpose clubhouse, field lighting, supporting roads and a 194-bay car park.

Mayor Allan Sutherland said the Football Precinct marked a major investment in the region’s sporting future.

“Forget the capital cities — we are delivering world-class sporting infrastructure right here in the Moreton Bay Region,” Cr Sutherland said.

“Not only do we now have a dedicated Football Precinct in Burpengary, we also have an $14 million AFL Precinct and after a $5.4 million upgrade, essentially a brand new aquatic centre as well.

"We have invested more than $30 million in sporting infrastructure in the northern part of our region in the last few months alone."

“Facilities of this calibre attract major sporting events which boost local spending and in turn, reinvigorate our regional economy.

“They also inspire people of all ages and abilities to get active and get involved with their local clubs — that’s money well spent.”

Councillor Flannery thanked the Queensland Government for its $1.5 million contribution to the project under the Get Playing Plus program.

“This is a great example of collaboration between local and state government and I note the Caboolture Sports Football Club also kicked in $100,000 towards the fit-out of the clubhouse thanks to a Federal Government grant,” Cr Flannery said.

“When we work together, great things are achieved. You never know, this Football Precinct could become the training ground for the next Tim Cahill or Harry Kewell!”

Member for Morayfield Mark Ryan said the Caboolture Sports FC had  proudly and successfully flown the flag for football in our region, with the senior men’s team this year promoted to the Brisbane Premier League.

“These new facilities will not only be of tremendous benefit to players and volunteers of all ages, they will be a great showcase for our region to visiting teams and supporters travelling here for away games,” Mr Ryan said.

Kurwongbah MP Shane King said he was impressed by the works.

“This is a great addition to an already great facility,” Mr King said.

“It is definitely needed and welcomed by our community.”

Further investment has been flagged for the Football Precinct in coming years, including a proposed $6.3 million for three additional senior soccer fields over 2021-23. Earth works have already been completed for the additional fields.
