New Meeting Point for D’Aguilar Community

The D’Aguilar community will soon have a new meeting point with Cash Street Park to undergo a makeover.
Moreton Bay Regional Council today unanimously approved the $238,000 upgrade, with Mayor Peter Flannery saying the enhancements would provide more outdoor recreation opportunities for locals.
“This local project is possible thanks to a $100,000 contribution from the Federal Government and is important in this more remote corner of our region, as a practical way that Council could help parents raise active and engaged local kids,” Mayor Flannery said.
“I know there’s nothing worse than listening to your kids complain about being bored and I know the guilt when they get too much screen time, that’s why I’m passionate about building parks that encourage families to get outside.
“Our makeover of Cash Street Park reimagines it as more of a community focal point by including new playground equipment, seating areas and connecting pathways as well as the new half-court.
“With the success of the Boomers and Opals in Tokyo and the announcement of the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games, there’s never been a better time to encourage people to get active.
“I can’t wait to start work on our own Olympic Park in Petrie, with a 7000 seat indoor sport stadium!”
Federal Member for Longman Terry Young MP said the Morrison Government was focussed on grassroots infrastructure investments as a way to not only support local jobs, but enhance our local lifestyle.
“This upgrade is great news for young people and families in D’Aguilar who enjoy keeping active and spending time outdoors,” Mr Young said.
“The new half-court for basketball and netball along with the park’s other facilities mean there’s something for everyone in the family at this fantastic local park.
“The Federal Government’s Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program has already improved local roads, parks, sporting facilities and footpaths across the region and there is much more to come.”
“This is another example of what can happen when governments work together for the good of the community.”
Division 12 Councillor Tony Latter said works will begin in September and take around 12 weeks to complete.
“Cash Street Park is already a popular spot for locals to enjoy and I thank them in advance for their patience while work is underway,” Cr Latter said.
“D’Aguilar is a growing community and the expanded playground and seating will allow more families to enjoy the outdoor amenities of this community.
“I can’t wait for the locals to get out and get active and enjoy the park upgrade.
“I also want to thank the Federal Government’s Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program for helping Council deliver infrastructure projects like this, that will keep us ahead of our region’s rapid population growth.”
