Building your dream home? Then this is a dream come true!

Queensland’s leading architects are visiting the Redcliffe Library on March 20 and are happy to provide expert guidance on how to get the most out of your design, including tricks to save money on utility bills.

Acting Mayor Jodie Shipway said she wanted to empower locals to get the best bang for their buck as the region’s population booms.

“Council’s just launched a new home and living guidelines, which has been developed with home experts to give you the best advice on how future-proof your home, make the most of your block and overcome any challenges you might face when building,” she said.

“It’s essential reading before coming to chat with experienced architects at the special Climate Smart event and learn how to adapt their home to the region’s subtropical climate.

“This event is all about how you can adapt the home you have or the plans you’re going with to make the most of modern design and keep those maintenance costs and utility bills down.

“No one wants to live in a home that stays hot in summer and costs thousands of dollars every year just to keep the aircon running, which makes this an unmissable event for anyone building or renovating.

“It’s your chance to get inspired and talk with the experts in home design on the trending climate smart strategies and sustainable practices you can implement in your home.

“You don’t even need to leave the kids at home, there’s a ‘Little Architect’ session from 10am to 12pm to keep young ones occupied while parents chat to the home experts.

“Not to mention books at the library and a special session which will have the young ones building their own tree house and going on a treasure hunt.”

This event is being held in collaboration with the Asia Pacific Architecture Festival and the QLD Chapter of the Australian Institute of Architects.

Seven of the nine experts are Moreton Bay Architects, including several QLD leaders in Design and Sustainable Architecture.

•                 Chris Bligh, Bligh Graham Architects

•                 Susan Driver, Susan Driver Architect

•                 Tim Guymer, Tim Guymer Architect

•                 Hayley Lewis, Paul Butterworth Architect

•                 Peter  McArdle, pmta Architecture

•                 Matt Riley, Tonic Architecture + Design

•                 John Scandurra, Scandurra Architects

•                 Cameron Sheedy, Cameron Sheedy Architecture

The session will run from 10.15am to 12.30pm and be followed by a keynote presentation by 2021 Australian Institute of Architects Gold Medal winning architect, Don Watson who will talk about his famous design of the Redcliffe Library from 1.30pm to 3pm.

With a career spanning more than 50 years, Don is Queensland’s foremost architectural historian, advocate for architecture and postmodernist design - so you know he’ll have plenty inspiration for you to take home.
