Division 6 Councillor Koliana Winchester has announced more than $3 million in funding for the $5 million Redcliffe Administration Centre Art Gallery and Community Space Development in Moreton Bay Regional Council’s 2019/20 Budget.

“We are completely reimaging this space and its practicality for the future,” Cr Winchester said.

“By creating a central location to house the new gallery, customer service centre, Redcliffe’s University of Third Age (U3A) and the Redcliffe Seniors Computer Club, we will bolster the area’s reputation as a hub for community and culture.”

Cr Winchester also announced a further $445,000 in funding for spaces and facilities used by the community, which includes $150,000 for the Redcliffe SES Depot for new air-conditioning, bathroom fixtures and fittings, and additional functional space for activities like operational response and training.

“Our SES crews do a fantastic job assisting the community as first responders during times of disaster, and this funding will help the local SES group coordinate more activities and exercises in better facilities.”

Councillor Winchester also announced more than $2.3 million for local road upgrades including $302,000 for the Road Resurface Program and $182,000 for pedestrian safety upgrades at Sutton Street adjacent to Blue Water Square.

“We’ve also committed $100,000 to kick start design works for the million-dollar-plus safe intersection crossings and shade tree planting project between Duffield Road and Dodds Street at Victoria Avenue in Margate, $85,000 for road rehabilitation between Collins Street and Hornibrook Esplanade at Victoria Avenue in Woody Point.

“We’ve also allocated $92,000 for construction of an intersection upgrade at Victoria Avenue, Redbank Road and Crawford Street.

“I am thrilled to announce today we are allocating $900,000 for the construction of a children’s adventure play space along with picnic facilities along the Hornibrook Esplanade Foreshore at Clontarf.

“It’s projects like this which really reinforce our healthy and relaxed lifestyle and why our region is so attractive to many people.”

Cr Winchester said council had also set aside $800,000 to construct a wetland within the Bells Creek Catchment to improve the creek’s water quality.

Cr Winchester said she was also pleased to announce more than $17,000 for the purchase, installation and storage of beach access matting and wheelchairs in partnership with the Redcliffe Surf Lifesaving Club as part of Council’s Disability Access and Inclusion Plan.

“We adopted the region’s first Disability Access and Inclusion Plan 2018-2022 last year to make our region more accessible and inclusive for people living with disabilities and to improve access and inclusion in our community,” she said.

“This project is another positive move forward in that direction.”
