Budget 2019-20 Division 12 - Better roads driving forward into 2020

Nearly $11.5 million will be pumped into roads around Division 12 this financial year to keep residents in Moreton Bay Region’s biggest division moving.

Division 12 Councillor Adrian Raedel said this was a crucial investment to maintain and improve existing roads for the future.

“Roads are the lifeline of this division and, arguably, our most important public asset,” he said.

“Roads connect us to our jobs, schools, family and places of recreation so they’re essential to our social fabric and our local economy.

“A total of $7.1 million has been dedicated specifically to resurfacing roads with asphalt and bitumen seal treatments.

“A brand new $1.8 million welcome mat will be rolled out in the Woodford CBD, with Archer Street set to be transformed.

“This will be a big project involving streetscape upgrades, new pathways and lighting, public artworks, signage and car parking. It will also include technical and safety elements like stormwater construction and flood mitigation designs.

“Wamuran will benefit from a $1.6 million spend on Pates Road to rehabilitate the 1,560-metre stretch between Newlands Road and Powell Road, with construction to get underway this year.

“Another $500,000 will be spent on the intersection upgrade of Oakey Flat Road and Ashbrook Drive, part of a $9.5 million project.

“I’ve secured $200,000 to seal 730 metres of Vidoni Road in Mount Delaney, where dust issues have been both a safety and health concern for locals.

“I also have a personal passion project to see a pedestrian cycleway connecting through to Caboolture via the rail trail.

“The first step is D’Aguilar through to Woodford on the western side of the highway for the safe travel of students between D’Aguilar and Delaneys Creek and Woodford School.

“We’ve allocated $10,000 to get the detailed design for that section done this year, and $160,000 to be allocated in next year’s budget to get construction underway in the 2020/21 financial year.”

Cr Raedel said another key Budget focus in 2019/20 would be investing in local sports facilities.

“Woodford Showgrounds will be shining bright with $105,000 to improve lighting and public safety,” he said.

“On top of that we’ve allocated $175,000 to remove the existing turf at Woodford Junior Rugby League’s fields and regrade the playing surface so we can plant a new hybrid couch grass species that will make the playing surface more durable and safer.”
