Preserving and improving Division 11’s enviable country lifestyle will be a key focus of Moreton Bay Regional Council’s 2019/20 Budget.

Division 11 Councillor Darren Grimwade said over the next two decades the Moreton Bay Region would become home to the same population as Tasmania.

“Moreton Bay Region’s population will grow, but I don’t want our local character to change,” he said.

“It’s absolutely essential we invest strategically to protect our natural environment and improve community infrastructure, like our recreation spaces and sporting clubs.

“Locals know my passionate support for the Samford Community Hub project.

“A total of $3.25 million has been allocated for the redevelopment of the Samford Parklands community building this financial year, which is in addition to the $500,000 allocated in 18/19.

“Construction is well underway at Samford’s incredible new soccer precinct and these works will continue in 2019/20 with another $1.15 million allocated to this impressive project.

“Project planning for Narangba’s new tennis courts and clubhouse is already finished, so we’ve allocated $400,000 to getting the design work done by December this year - which will set the stage for $3.6 million worth of works at the Harris Avenue Sports Complex.

“Locals and visitors alike love our parks and green spaces, so we’ll spend $300,000 on the renewal of playground equipment in Samford’s John Scott Park, there’s $200,000 to start works on a pedestrian and fauna bridge over New Settlement Road in Narangba, another $200,000 for a new pedestrian and cycle bridge over South Pine River in Samford Valley, and in Dayboro’s Tullamore Park we’ll spend $120,000 to design and construct the replacement of a local footbridge.

“We’ve also allocated $100,000 for planning of Camp Constable’s new community hall in Mount Glorious this financial year, so that we’re ready for construction to begin in 2020.

“And to keep our green spaces pristine we’ll spend $110,000 to continue the removal of invasive weeds along the banks of the North Pine River in Dayboro as well as $190,000 to remove weeds and prevent erosion of Samford Creek’s banks in Harold Brown Park at Wights Mountain.”

Cr Grimwade said another focus area is maintaining and improving the vast tracts of road across Division 11.

“Road resurfacing projects around Division 11 have received $4.5 million,” he said.

“We’ve committed $700,000 to widening and resurfacing McKenzie Street in Dayboro between Dayboro State School and the veterinary clinic.

“In addition to that we’ll be investing $1.12 million on the intersection upgrade at Main Street, Mackie Road and Mumford Road in Narangba and another $440,000 at the intersection of New Settlement Road, Cottontree Drive and McKenzie Avenue.”
