Brisbane Roar move to Dolphin Stadium

Moreton Bay Region is making a strong claim as the sports capital of southeast Queensland with another national sports team coup.

Brisbane Roar have announced it will leave behind Suncorp Stadium for the sunny shores of Redcliffe, by relocating all its men’s A-League matches to Dolphin Stadium for the next two seasons.

It comes after the Roar women and youth teams announced they would relocate to a new $18 million centre of excellence at Brendale by 2023.

“Football lovers thought they were excited when the Women and Youth teams announced they’d be coming to Moreton Bay, now they’ll have 13 A-League matches right on their doorstep,” Mayor Peter Flannery said.

“We’re so proud to be the new home of the Brisbane Roar through a long-standing relationship and proven track record of successfully hosting A-League and W-League games in the recent years.

“This just validates all the $8.4 million we’ve invested into Dolphin Stadium to bring its capacity up to 11,000 and become a one of the best grounds in Queensland.

“I look forward to the next two years partnership with the Brisbane Roar men and an extended relationship with the women and development teams as they build a base in Moreton Bay Region.

“We hope this will not only bring world class football to our region, but prove that Redcliffe is ready and capable of hosting the next Brisbane-based NRL club.

“Council has spent $150 million on sports infrastructure across the region over the past eight years and we’ve increased our spend in this year’s budget by 40%, compared to 2019-20.

“It just goes to show that Moreton Bay Region is committed to be the sports capital of southeast Queensland.”
