Moreton Bay Region tourism operators are open and ready to cater for an influx of Christmas holidaymakers, with bookings flooding in ahead of Queensland’s borders re-opening.

Victoria and New South Wales residents will be free to travel to Queensland from December 1 and local tourism operators are promising visitors the best Queensland experience possible.

But Mayor Peter Flannery said you’d better get in quick, with accommodation booking up fast.

“We are the most family friendly and affordable destination in Queensland, so I expect accommodation will quickly book up, in fact I reckon this is going to be the most exciting Christmas-New Year period ever,” he said.

“Unlike some other areas we were pre-planned for borders to reopen.

“We’ve already got our Christmas Carols events planned, we’ve already approved fireworks for New Years and our businesses are already waiting to roll out the red carpet for tourists.

“Nowhere in Queensland are you going to get a more authentic or enthusiastic welcome than here in Moreton Bay Region.

“We expect to see thousands of tourists coming up from the southern states to holiday and to visit their relatives over the Christmas break, in fact some places have said they’re already booked out as far as February!

“But the best thing about Moreton Bay is that we’re just minutes away from Brisbane and the Sunshine Coast.

“So even if you can’t stay the night, you will absolutely be able to escape to the coast or our hinterland for some truly amazing experiences.

“More and more people are choosing our shores over some of the traditional holiday hotspots across Queensland in order to get away from the swarming crowds.

“We have a number of fantastic experiences ready to showcase everything our region has to offer, and hopefully that will entice people to come back again during the off-peak periods.

“There are online itineraries cover everything from action-packed beach adventures along Moreton Bay and the Pumicestone Passage to hinterland getaways in the region’s west.

“There’s foodie trails for those who want to treat themselves this holiday season and a plethora of interesting exhibitions at one of our many galleries and museums for the culture vulture.”
