Young Citizen a bright light for Moreton Bay’s future

While most other teens have their heads buried in computer screens, 14-year-old Evelyn Robinson is keeping an eye to the future and she’s determined to make it brighter for all.
Her impressive charity work with multiple organisations around the region has earned her the title of Moreton Bay Regional Council’s Young Citizen of the Year.
“Evelyn is an exceptional young woman already working to address complicated and confronting issues like domestic violence and homelessness, proving she is well beyond her years,” said Acting Mayor Mike Charlton.
“The Moreton Bay Region is so proud of her immense community spirit and willingness to so selflessly give her time to people in need.
“Evelyn is most deserving of our Young Citizen of the Year Award and meeting her gives me hope that our future is in safe hands.”
In addition to her school and social commitments Evelyn also manages to dedicate time to charities including Rize Up Australia, Redcliffe Breakfast Club, Hand in Hand Community Project and Young Care.
The humble winner said she was surprised to receive the award.
“This is an extraordinary honour, it’s really good news,” said Evelyn.
“I volunteer because I really enjoy it and it’s really good for developing skills and understanding for everything in life.
“Volunteering has really helped me appreciate the support I have around me in my life, like my wonderful family and friends.
It also makes me realise that others aren’t born into such privilege, which is why I want to give back.”
Division 4 Councillor Julie Greer said she was astounded by how much Evelyn packs into a day.
“Evelyn shows great pride in her community, she’s marched in the ANZAC Day Parade since 2016, she’s a member of Australian Airforce Cadets and even won the Citizen Award for Service at The Lakes College where she goes to school,” said Cr Greer.
“It is so important to be able to recognise the residents who go over and above for our community and celebrate their contribution.
“I wish her all the best as she continues her great journey through life and wish her luck as she completes her Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Award this year.”
