Moreton Bay Region’s new Council is already delivering on its promise to create jobs and rebuild the local economy, today approving the construction of a new asphalt plant in Brendale.

The next-generation facility will be built to a state-of-the-art standard and manufacture recycled asphalt products that can be used in construction and road projects.

Mayor Peter Flannery said approving Downer Edi Works to relocate from their current premises on Kremzow Road to Leitchs Road will enable the company to reduce its environmental footprint and produce materials to cater for the demand of our growing region.

“This $30 million project is a huge win for our economy, supporting work for dozens of locals through the construction phase and sustaining more than 40 ongoing jobs once it’s operational,” Cr Flannery said.

“Downer Edi Works’ investment in our region is a signal to the market that Moreton Bay Region is still open for business and we’re excited by industry-leading projects like this.

“It’s this kind of business confidence and investment that will help us come out of the COVID pandemic stronger.

“This next-generation recycling plant will ease the strain on our landfills by reprocessing waste materials to be use in road and construction projects.

“It is also licensed to meet all the contemporary standards for environmental performance by the State environment department.

“Moreton Bay Regional Council has already trialled recycled road base products and we are committed to the continued delivery of  environmentally friendly roads right throughout our region.”

The plant is proposed to be developed in four stages and will consist of a RAP processing plant, conveyors, asphalt storage bins, offices and laboratories.
