Griffin Active Transport Network Plan

Griffin will go green over the next decade and beyond with a series of new eco-link boardwalks and pathways to connect the suburb’s recreation areas and environmental attractions.

Mayor Peter Flannery said Council voted in favour of developing a new Active Transport Network Plan for Griffin to enable safe, active transport and enhance liveability for locals.

“Residents will be able to walk from the North Pine River via a boardwalk, to the shiny new Griffin Sports Complex once it’s finished, and back home again,” he said.

“This  plan maps out a series of practical solutions to connect the suburb’s residential areas to its existing amenities and emerging facilities.

“Residential housing has mostly filled out in neighbouring suburbs North Lakes and Mango Hill, so it’s only natural that Griffin is next.

“There are also a number of exciting developments happening around Griffin like the new sports complex, the Henry Road upgrade and the future North-South Urban Arterial upgrade.”

Division 4 councillor Jodie Shipway said this will help create a vibrant, active community for many years to come.

“I think residents will love the ability to get out and explore their own backyard with natural assets like the North Pine River and Hays Inlet being so close by,” she said.

“A new boardwalk will become a destination for locals to walk their dogs, relax and reconnect with nature or go for a run after work.

“This all goes a long way to improving the liveability in our suburbs for families to enjoy.”

Deputy Mayor councillor Denise Sims (Div 7) said this would be great for ensuring the safety of locals, especially for young ones.

“It’s great for mums and dads to know that they can cycle or walk with their kids to sports facilities and parks while avoiding major road networks,” she said.

“I’m eager to make sure this will be a success like the McClintock Drive and Brays Road upgrades we’ve implemented to help create a safer and more efficient network for school pick-up and drop offs.”

Council will now progress with the delivery of the links identified in the blueprint, which will be housed on Council’s website and forwarded to the Department of Transport and Main Roads to assist planning for the North-South Urban Arterial (Moreton Connector).
