Bribie Island and the Second World War Published 08 September 2020 1939: construction begins on Fort Bribie. Over the next few years, Bribie Island changes from a relaxed holiday destination to a military installation. Concrete and timber structures appear, large guns arrive by sea and the eastern side of the island becomes a military zone.
