Departures from reality - The Fine Monochrome Print Group

Keiko Goto's artwork Fantasia 1

When first introduced, the camera was hailed as the ultimate mimetic machine, perfectly capturing reality. Photographers, however, have always been masters at manipulating reality, be it through framing, lighting or in the darkroom. In Departures from reality, members of the Fine Monochrome Print Group challenge and confuse reality, through a range of techniques, raising the question - what is real and what is fiction?

The Fine Monochrome Print Group formed in 2003 from a shared passion for traditional darkroom photography and the preservation of these techniques. Now in their 16th year, the group meet regularly to share and discuss their works.
