Familiar Monsters closing party
Join Mark du Potiers and friends as we celebrate the final weekend of Mark’s solo exhibition, Familiar Monsters. Pine Rivers Art Gallery will come alive after dark for your chance to experience this wonderful exhibition at night.
Don’t miss the re-creation of Mark’s roving performance work, Familiar Monster 2022, mixing the disciplines of visual art, dance, music and costume.
We’ll have a food truck with delicious dumplings, a bar and DJ Black Amex will be spinning some tunes so we can let our hair down to dance with our monsters.
Join us from 6-8pm, bookings are a must!
BLACK AMEX plays groove-driven mix of disco, funk, house and rare remixes. An avid vinyl collector and freewheeling selector, BLACK AMEX is the DJ alias of creative Trina Massey. Playing vinyl initially at house parties and local bars, she’s adapted into the digital medium, mixing genres with limitless abandon. Weaving the familiar with the new.
Matt Hsu is a multi-award-winning musician and composer. Matt was born and raised in Meanjin/Brisbane with Asian heritage. Matt works collaboratively with a large group of fellow instrumentalists, performing as ‘Matt Hsu’s Obscure Orchestra’. For this performance, Matt brings some fantastic friends from the Orchestra – Hannah Reardon-Smith, Jodie Rottle, and Kaya Tominaga – to join in the fun.
Brendan Kydd is a performer, dancer, and choreographer with strong connections to the Moreton Bay Region as well as our important PoC (People of Colour) and queer communities. Brendan will lead the band of brilliant creatives (artists, arts workers, designers, and writers) – Argo Theoharis; Amihan, Aniway, Diego, and Léon Aquilizan – in a MONSTER MASH and bEaStLy BoOgY-wOoGiE! In the final days of winter and under the light of the full moon – come eat, drink and dance with us fellow monsters to help cast the demons away!
