See and sketch

Caboolture Regional Art Gallery in consultation with artist Simon Degroot, 2020

Get hands-on at home or even in your very own backyard with our fun, friendly and mindful sketching activity resource designed in collaboration with artist Simon Degroot.

Our See and sketch resources start with guiding young artists toward noticing the finer details within their surrounding environments, encouraging them to develop skills in close observation. Participants will select an artwork, painting, design or even an interesting book cover they can find in the home and be guided step-by-step throughout the resource in a drawing activity that will develop seeing and sketching skills and fine-tune visual acuity.

This free children’s resource is a great opportunity to learn an in-depth process which is utilised by contemporary artist’s such as Simon, to make their very own artworks.

Adults are welcome to help guide their children throughout the activities and decide which resource would be more suitable for their child. There are two resources available, one is aimed at ages 4-7 years and the other is aimed at 8-13 years. Choose according to your child’s level of interest.
