Community of Light
Community of Light explores the sensory and embodied experience of light, place and belonging in painting. It draws upon the expansive and ephemeral perception of light by the sea, in particular the natural elements of Moreton Bay, Minjerribah (North Stradbroke Island) and the Nordic seas.
The gestural, tactile and illuminated paintings invite enquiry and exploration, rather than resolution - the work lingers ambiguously in the threshold between abstraction and figuration. The immersive and sensory quality of Community of Light offers a space for reflection and connection.
The community is encouraged to enter, to linger and to engage with their own sensory perception and imagination. When our senses are activated, we become more reflectively aware, not only of the work but also of ourselves and of the world around us. In this way we can gain a higher sense of responsibility for the environment, both individually and collectively.
