Artist panel: connecting land and art

People watching panel discussion

Join us for a discussion and examination of where the natural land meets human impact. Set against the current exhibition Her beauty and her terror, in which contemporary artists explore the Australian landscape and our connection to it, a panel of artists from the exhibition will share their insights and discuss where their work sits in presenting a new vision of the landscape.

Continue the conversation afterwards over lunch with a musical accompaniment.

Libby Harward is a descendant of the Ngugi people of Mulgumpin (Moreton Island) in Quandamooka. She creates artworks that break through the colonial overlay to connect with the cultural landscape, which always was, and remains there.

Merri Randell is a visual practitioner who works with all kinds of visual media to communicate different meanings. In 2014, she completed a doctorate where she investigated Australian cinematic landscape myths to explore her identity and relationship with the land.

Samantha Lang is a filmmaker. Over the last 20 years, her films have screened at major festivals including Sundance, Toronto, Locarno, and have received international recognition at the highest level. Presently she is a DCA candidate at the University of Technology, Sydney. Her areas of interest include eco feminine cinema and cultural narratives in the Anthropocene.

Anna Litwinowicz is an emerging artist whose practice investigates the intersections of consciousness, existential philosophy, sublime experiences and the natural world. To engage with these broad fields, Anna creates video and light installations that evoke spaces of contemplation for art audiences.
