Making Do

During the Great Depression of the 1930s and the war years of the 1940s, ‘making do’ was a way of life for many families. The saying was, "Use it up, wear it out, make it do or do without."

This mantra lead to innovation limited only by people’s imagination; furniture was made out of kerosene tins, and clothing was mended and handed down from one family member to another. As well as showcasing ‘make do’ objects from the past, this exhibition features reused and repurposed contemporary objects from the Moreton Bay Regional Council Heritage Collection and the wider community.
