Weaving for joy - Albany Creek

Eight-pointed star

Join master weaver and co-founder of One Billion Stars (formerly One Million Stars to End Violence) Maryann Talia Pau and discover star-weaving at this fun workshop. Maryann’s practise is driven by collaboration with a focus on sharing stories and building resilient communities through Pasifika weaving.

Maryann has been weaving body adornment, facilitating workshops and collaborating for over a decade. As part of the 2022 Joy Connection program, Maryann invites the Moreton Bay community to weave for joy as she teaches us how to weave an eight-point star. The workshop will reveal some rich cultural stories and contemporary adaptations of Maryann's style of weaving. This workshop is suitable for all ages. Remember to bring along some water.

What to expect:

  • fun group atmosphere to learn a new skill and hear inspiring stories from the project
  • your own woven stars to take home
  • upcycled and repurposed materials will be provided.
