Redcliffe district specificRedcliffe

Dogs must be on a lead

When you are taking your dog for a walk in a public place (eg. on the footpath, in parks or on dog beaches), it must be held on a lead at all times.

This is required because dogs which stray or escape from the person walking them can cause numerous problems for the community including:

  • Straying onto roads causing accidents
  • Jumping up onto other people
  • Attacking people or other animals
  • Disturbing other dogs in the neighbourhood causing a chain reaction of barking
  • Defecating in public areas

Off leash area

If you would like to let your dog run free, the Council provides an off-lead dog park at:

  • Kroll Gardens
  • Corner of Duffield Road & Elizabeth Avenue, Clontarf
  • Facilities include: refilling water bowl, dog agility equipment, seats & toilets

Dog friendly beaches

Dogs are allowed on the following beaches in Redcliffe:

  • Any beaches between the Houghton Highway and Woody Point Jetty, Clontarf & Woody Point
  • The beach between Drury Point and Queens Beach North, Scarborough
  • Any beaches between Jamieson Park and Endeavour Park, Scarborough

Remember, your dog must be held on a lead while it is on the beach.

Dogs not permitted near parks

Dogs are not permitted to go within 15 metres of a children's playground (regardless of whether or not the playground is being used at the time) or on a sports field area of any park.

Dog droppings

In order to keep Redcliffe free from dog droppings, you are required to pick up after your dog in a public place. The easiest way to do this is to ensure that you always carry a bag with you when walking your dog.

The Council provides a network of dog tidy bags throughout the area. Using a bag to collect your dog's droppings is easy:

  • Collect a bag from a dog tidy bag dispenser (or take your own bag)
  • Use the bag like a glove to pick up your dog's droppings
  • Turn the bag inside out so that the contents are on the inside
  • Securely tie the bag
  • Place the bag in a public litter bin

Penalties

Penalties (ranging from $75.00 - $150.00) apply for failing to comply with any of the rules for walking your dog. Contact Council for further information.
