Dakabin Pound (RSPCA)

Operating hours
- Monday to Friday: 8.30am - 4.30pm
- Saturday & Sunday: 9.00am - 4.00pm

For after hours, please contact RSPCA
on 1300 363 736 to check if a lost animal is on their list.
The RSPCA has a contract with council to manage and operate the pound facilities. The RSPCA is required to comply with provisions under the local law and other directives of council in relation to the management of impounded animals.
Lost animals & strays
If your pet has gone missing, contact the Dakabin Pound immediately, as it may have been impounded.
If you have found someone's pet or animals roaming, please contact Council and if possible, provide:
- Your name & contact details
- Registration tag number
- Description of the animal
- When & where it was found
Council will then organise for the animal to be collected by either the owner or a Council officer.
Impoundment
All animals (including dogs & cats) must be restricted to their owners properties. Any dog or cat found wandering at large may be impounded at Councils Pound and RSPCA facility at Goodwin Road, Dakabin.
Refer to Council's fees & charges for release fees.
Further impounding may require the keeper to show cause why the animal should not be de-registered and removed from the district.
Register of animals
A register of impounded animals is kept at Council's pound facilities. Council does encourage the public to visit the pound to check if their dog has been impounded.
There is an after hours number of 1300 363 736 (RSPCA) that keeps a register of lost animals. This is only effective if the animal was picked up before 4.30pm when our Pound closes, as they update the register then. If an animal comes in after that time, they will have to ring our Pound or RSPCA the next day to see if their animal is there.
Council officers make all attempts to locate the owner of impounded animals to advise of their impounding. This may include checks for micro chipping, registration tags, or by local knowledge.
