The State Government has declared the following breeds (including cross breeds) restricted dogs:
- dogo Argentino
- fila Brasileiro
- Japanese tosa
- American Pit Bull Terrier and Pit Bull Terrier.
Owners of these breeds must register their animals as restricted dogs with Council and ensure:
- they are securely enclosed on their property inside a 1.8 metre (six feet) high childproof enclosure at least 10 square metres in area
- they wear a current registration tag
- a restricted dog warning sign is displayed at each entrance to the property
- they are muzzled and on a leash in public
- they are desexed within three months.
