Restricted dogs

The State Government has declared the following breeds (including cross breeds) restricted dogs:

  • dogo Argentino
  • fila Brasileiro
  • Japanese tosa
  • American Pit Bull Terrier and Pit Bull Terrier.

Owners of these breeds must register their animals as restricted dogs with Council and ensure:

  • they are securely enclosed on their property inside a 1.8 metre (six feet) high childproof enclosure at least 10 square metres in area
  • they wear a current registration tag 
  • a restricted dog warning sign is displayed at each entrance to the property
  • they are muzzled and on a leash in public
  • they are desexed within three months.
