Christmas in the Park 2013 is proudly brought to you by Moreton Bay Regional Council. Embrace the season as we celebrate Christmas and our community spirit on Saturday, 30 November 2013 at Pine Rivers Park on Gympie Road in Strathpine.
This years’ festivities will include Santa’s Village featuring the Tinsel-A-Tree competition, $2 rides, markets, free kids workshops, a huge ‘Christmas Crackers’ fireworks display and, of course, the annual Christmas concert! The Christmas concert begins at 4:30pm with Santa’s arrival and performances by talented local community groups, including a special performance of Dr Seuss’ The Grinch. Starring Jay Laga’aia and Casey Donovan and hosted by 97.3fm’s Robyn Bailey.
Find your inner elf in Santa’s Village with Christmas Card making workshop for the kids. Local community groups and businesses will be creating magical Christmas Tinsel-A -Tree displays within Santa’s Village. A gold coin donation will be collected at the entrance to the Village with all proceeds going to these local community groups and charities.
Make sure you don’t miss out on giving Santa your Christmas wish as he makes a special trip from the North Pole to Pine Rivers. Visit Santa from 5pm to 8.30pm in Santa’s Village – he’ll be keeping an eye out to see whose naught and whose nice!
97.3’S Robin Bailey (MC)
Robin began her career as a journalist in Sydney and has lived in all the major capital cities working as an announcer and T.V presenter. For the last 7 years Robin has chosen to live in Brisbane and is now working and raising a young family here. Robin’s experience has been wide and varied. She has done everything from hosting children’s T.V to presenting and producing a female based radio show.
A Dayboro local, Sharryn Bell will be performing some of her favourite Christmas Carols but with an Aussie twist.
The Grinch Christmas Show
The Grinch is up to his old tricks again, this time he is back in town to try and ruin Christmas once and for all. But with the help of some of our special Christmas fairies & magical elf friends, he is stopped in his tracks!
The incredible magic of our special Christmas friends finally won the Grinch over with the spirit of Christmas and all of its festivities. The Christmas fairies and magical elf friends to the rescue again, saving Christmas and teaching the Grinch about its true meaning. In the true style of Dr Seuss, this show is a reflection of the original story with a new modern flavour.
La Forza, meaning ‘the force’ is just that and a whole lot more! Blending the talents of some of Australia and New Zealand’s top vocalists who have performed throughout the world, together they exude class and pure vocal power not to be matched.
Performing spine tingling renditions from the likes of Josh Groban, Il Divo, Lloyd Webber, Andrea Bocelli, Michael Buble’, Peter Allen and many more!
At the age of 16, Casey Donovan wowed audiences with her powerful voice and took out the top spot on the second season on Australian Idol. Donovan also since established herself as one of Australia's most promising Indigenous entertainers and has performed at major events such as the Commonwealth Games and Woodfood Dreaming Festival. Casey Donovan will be gracing this years’ Christmas in the Park stage with by a 3-piece band, performing traditional Carols along with some original pieces.
Jay Laga'aia is a much-loved actor and children's entertainer. His film credits include Nim's Island and Star Wars, and television credits on Home and Away, Bed of Roses, Legend of the Seeker, Xena Warrior Princess and of course, Play School! He’s played Mufasa in The Lion King and the Wizard in Wicked, The Musical. A gifted musician Jay has written and recorded three children's albums with ABC for Kids and toured his live show throughout Australia. Jay is a proud father of 8.
Little Elf’s Christmas Surprise
As the little Elf ponders the magic of Christmas, he wishes on the Christmas star that his Gingerbread man was real. Much to his delight and surprise on Christmas morning his wish becomes a reality. Performed to all our Christmas favourites including “Let’s build a gingerbread house”, enjoy this beautiful story on a magical night.

Santa's Village and Tinsel-A-Tree
Christmas in the Park will feature a new exciting area – Santa’s Village! The village will feature Santa and his elves for children to visit, Christmas card making workshop, free animal farm, and the exciting competition called Tinsel-A-Tree! Tinsel-A-Tree will be a magical display full of Christmas trees decorated by different groups within the community. Santa’s Village is via gold coin donation which is given back to the community groups who are participating in the Tinsel-A-Tree competition.
Throughout the night, judges score the trees and a winner will be announced at the end of the night – taking home a $250 cash prize for their not-for-profit organisation or nominated charity. Every participating group will also receive a Christmas Hamper as recognition of their involvement with ‘Tinsel-A-Tree’ and a portion of the funds raised from donations in Santa’s Village.
