Council has provided an extensive bikeway and pathway network that is expanded every year. To help you to enjoy cycling and walking Council has compiled useful information including tips, advice, maps and safety checklists.
Safety
To keep our bikeways safe and enjoyable for all, cyclist and pedestrians should be aware of the following safety hints:
- Safe cyclists give way to pedestrians who are on or entering bikeways
- Safe cyclists keep as close as practicable to the left hand side of the bikeway
- Safe bicycles have bells - and safe cyclists use them when approaching pedestrians
- Safe bicycles are equipped with headlamps, rear lamps and reflectors
- Safe cyclists and pedestrians wear light coloured clothing at night
- Safe cyclists approach bikeway bends and potential blindspots with care.
